Waterfowl Hunting in Texas with Texas Tech Ducks Unlimited

Texas, known for its vast landscapes and rich wildlife, offers a unique experience for outdoor enthusiasts, especially those passionate about waterfowl hunting. Our recent trip to Texas was an adventure filled with duck hunting, culinary delights, and the camaraderie of the hunting community. In this blog post, We'll share our experiences and insights from this trip, including some fantastic videos that capture the essence of hunting in Texas.

The Thrill of Duck Hunting with Texas Tech Students

Our journey began with an insightful podcast hosted by Derek Christians, featuring students from Texas Tech University. This episode, part of the Campus Waterfowl Podcast, was a treasure trove of information for duck hunters. The students shared their personal experiences and recommendations for the best gifts to give duck hunters, covering everything from high-quality decoys to reliable hunting equipment. Their passion for the sport was evident, and their stories added a personal touch to the practical advice they offered. We encourage you to watch or listen to the podcast on YouTubeApple Podcasts, or Spotify.

A Day in the Life of a Duck Hunter

Next, we joined the Texas Tech Ducks Unlimited chapter for a day of duck hunting, guided by Jonathan Underwood of Caprock Waterfowl. The video captured the excitement of hunting greenwing teal, mallards, and pintails in a hay grazer field. The highlight was visiting Fowler Hide Supply, where we saw the craftsmanship involved in creating custom duck call lanyards and other hunting accessories. This experience showcased the dedication and skill that goes into every aspect of duck hunting.

Culinary Delights: From Field to Table

After a day in the field, it was time to indulge in some culinary delights. Nathan Macik, president of the Texas Tech Ducks Unlimited chapter, demonstrated a mouth-watering recipe for peppercorn-crusted sandhill crane breast with red wine sauce and asparagus.

This video was not just about cooking; it was a celebration of the hunter's lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of field-to-table practices in the hunting community.

The Ultimate Goose Hunting Experience

The final leg of our trip was an exhilarating goose hunting experience with Caprock Waterfowl. We set up decoys in a hay grazer field, a typical feeding ground for Specklebellies, Snows, Canadas, and field ducks. The video captured the essence of goose hunting - the preparation, the anticipation, and the joy of a successful hunt.

Conclusion

Our trip to Texas was more than just a hunting expedition; it was a journey into the heart of a community that cherishes wildlife and the outdoors. Each video we shared offers a glimpse into this world, where passion for the sport, respect for nature, and camaraderie among hunters come together to create unforgettable experiences. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or new to the sport, Texas offers a rich, diverse, and welcoming environment for all who seek adventure in the great outdoors.
